More About the Event

RideLondon was established by the Mayor of London in 2013 as an Olympic legacy event from the 2012 London Games. RideLondon has since grown into the world’s greatest festival of cycling, featuring 100,000 riders of all ages and abilities enjoying a range of different mass participation rides, along with road races contested by the world’s best professional riders, all broadcast live on the BBC.

The iconic 100-mile distance is the longest challenge ride in the RideLondon programme. It has been part of RideLondon since it was first held in 2013, with the first seven editions starting and finishing in London with a loop of Surrey in between. As well as the 100-mile challenge for amateur riders, RideLondon features family-friendly cycle rides on traffic-free roads passing some of the capital’s most iconic landmarks.

In 2023 the RideLondon-Essex 100 provided a unique opportunity to ride 100 miles on traffic-free roads through the heart of London and neighbouring Essex. The event started and finished in the centre of the capital at Tower Bridge, with 60 miles of rolling roads through some of Essex’s most beautiful countryside and villages in between.

Also, in 2023 Essex hosted stages one and two of a new three-day road race, part of the UCI Women’s WorldTour. The final stage finished in central London on the same day as the 100-mile amateur Sportive, the Ride London Essex 100.
