The first edition of the race in 1981 finished close to Constitution Hill, but from 1982 until 1993 the race ended on Westminster Bridge. However, in 1994 repair work to the bridge meant the Finish Line was moved to The Mall, where it has been ever since. When you turn into Birdcage Walk and reach the penultimate bend of the London Marathon, you will come face-to-face with Buckingham Palace and know that you have just 385 yards left until the Finish Line on The Mall. There is no other marathon like the London Marathon. The support is incredible: expect 26.2 miles of constant cheering supporters, high fives from children and shouts of encouragement. You will feel like a hero.

Stay near the StartIt's very convenient to stay in or near Greenwich for the Marathon. Collect your entry from Excel en-route to the hotel on Friday and stay 2 nights near Greenwich. You'll have short walk to the Marathon start on Sunday morning. If you travel light, you can hand in your bag to be transported to the finish and after you finish later this afternoon, you can collect your bag and set off home.
Stay in the city centreIf you'd like to stay in London's city centre then there will not be far to go after you finish. This is ideal if you want to stay another night in London after you finish and take in the celebratory atmosphere.
