Route Description
The athletes start from the ancient Castle of Brolio. The panorama and the landscapes, made even warmer and more welcoming by the colours of autumn. The first 5 km are almost flat, ideal for warming up, but with a minimum difference in height until the arrival at the Castle of Cacchiano, an altitude of 505m from where you can enjoy a breath-taking view of Siena, the Chianti hills, and villages. Take an easy and short path in the direction of the village of Monti in Chianti, then enjoy forest road and vineyards, with a climb of about 100m Continue on the old route in the Monti area. Soon you will enter a vineyard and among the rows you reach the modern Badia di Coltibuono winery at 14km. Continue along a gentle climb on a dirt road, near the Castle of Lucignano.
Continue slightly uphill towards the castle of Brolio. At 20km you will enter a vineyard to reach, always uphill, the Podernovi farmhouse. You will have in front of you a wonderful scenery both in the direction of Siena and the vineyards that surround you. The second climb ends and through vineyards and woods you will arrive at the village of San Felice.
Continue in the direction of Villa a Sesta, in a short but steep descent until we arrive through a vineyard at 27km just below the village of Villa a Sesta at 380m. Proceed in the direction of the village Castelnuovo Berardenga. You will descend for a km between the rows of vineyard and after an easy ford the lowest point of the route (245m), you will face an uphill stretch of 100 meters before arriving at the Castell'in Villa company at 30km.
Continue on a dirt road in a flat stretch with an amazing view of Chianti, among farmhouses, vineyards and cypresses: you will feel like you are in front of a painting. Shortly after you will descend into an easy and pleasant descent of the dirt road for about 2.5km, the ideal time to recover your energy. From this point you will enter the route of the 21km and the 13km in common until the arrival in Castelnuovo.
At 33km you will start a long and discontinuous climb, follow the path as it continues through olive trees and woods. At 35km you exit the woods with wonderful views opening up in front of you indicating that the climb is finally over. In a stretch of easy dirt road you will arrive at the friends of the Montecucco oil mill (350m) where you will smell the scent of new oil.
Continuing downhill always on a dirt road you will arrive close to a leap of red earth, where you will have to face a stretch of only 200 meters in length, very demanding and can be muddy. Go through a flat vineyard before a final push of 50 meters uphill. The finish will be a harmony, first on a dirt road downhill and at the last km in the vineyards of the Felsina company. You will suddenly find in front of you a giant rooster, symbol of Chianti Classico. You will reach a row of cypresses that lead to the historic cellar of the Felsina company. Then the last meters will lead you to the square for an arrival full of emotions and the awareness of having completed an incredible journey. Breathe and enjoy this immense and unforgettable joy.
