The UCI Gran Fondo World Championships are coming to Scotland in August 2023. Sportive Breaks are the official fan and amateur participant travel and experiences provider of the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships in Glasgow and Scotland. These Championships, featuring 13 World Championships across 7 disciplines including Track & Para Track Cycling will be the biggest showcase of two-wheeled action that the world has seen.

The UCI Gran Fondo World Series is a series of qualifier events in different countries that allows amateur cyclists to qualify for the World Championship by finishing in the top 25% in their age category. There are two disciplines: the individual time trial plus the Gran Fondo.

The Gran Fondo takes place in Perth on Friday 4 August 2023. There are two routes. The Gran Fondo will be tackled by male and female riders below the age of 50. The Medio Fondo will be for men and women above 50. Both routes start and finish in Perth. The field will be made up by riders who have qualified at one of the world series events in the year leading up to the world championships.

The Time Trial takes place in Dundee on Monday 7 August 2023. The start and the finish of the individual time trial are in slightly outside of Dundee.

Who can take part?

Each UCI Gran Fondo World Series event of the 2022-2023 seasons grants qualification rights for the 2023 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships. Events Calendar available here.

Based on the results of each race, the first 20% of athletes in each age group will be qualified for the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships. The 25% is calculated based on the number of starters in each age group, and not on the number of riders having finished the race. In addition, the first three riders of each official age category will qualify directly for the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships, independently of the number of starters in that age group. Riders must finish the race to gain qualification. The age categories of the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships are:

  • 19 – 34
  • 35 – 39
  • 40 – 44
