We arrive on the second rest day of the 2023 Giro d’Italia. We will stay in Trentino ahead of our first taste of Giro action on Stage 16 on Tuesday. After Trentino we move to Cortina d'Ampesso. Review of the stages

Stage 16 – Tuesday 23rd May - Sabbio Chiese – Monte Bondone – Mountain stage

Monte Bondono features on Stage 16. The Monte Bondone is one of the most spectacular panoramic terraces of the Alps. Over two thousand meters high, it is only 15 km from Trento and is easily accessible. This climb was used recently during the 2022 Granfondo World Championships and for the 2021 European Cycling Championships. It’s also host to a Gran Fondo which celebrates Charly Gaul’s attack in a snowstorm in 1956.

Stage 17 – Wednesday 24th May - Pergine Valsugana – Caorle – Sprint Stage

This is the last day of the 2023 Giro for sprinters apart from the final day in Rome. Those sprinters who have managed to drag themselves over the mountains so far will have their chance to win in Caorle on the Venetian Coast.

Stage 18 – Thursday 25th May – Oderzo – Val di Zoldo – Mountain Stage

What follows next is a tryptic of mountain stages with some spectacular stages in the beautiful Dolomites. Stage 18 is 160km long but mega difficult. The final 10 kilometres are very difficult with the 5 kilometres including sections over 19%.

Stage 19 – Friday 26th May – Longarone - Tre Cime Lavaredo – Mountain Stage

The 182km long stage 19 between Longarone and Tre Cime di Lavaredo has 5400 metres of climbing through and takes us through the beautiful but brutal Dolomites. The last section of the stage includes some famous Giro climbs like the Passo di Campolongo, the Passo Valparola, the Passo Giau, Passo Tre Croci and finally Tre Cime di Lavaredo.

Stage 20 – Saturday 27th May – Tarvisio – Monte Lussari – Mountain Time Trial

The final stage before Rome will be a mega steep Individual Time Trial. This stage takes the riders close to the border with Slovenia. This means that there will be a huge 750km transfer at the end of the day to take everyone to Rome. The climb has an average of 12%, with the opening 4.5 kilometres at 15%! Many riders will decide to swap TT bikes for climbing bikes halfway through.

Stage 21 – Sunday 28th May – Roma!

The 2023 Giro d’Italia winner will be crowned after a sprint stage on the uncomfortable roads of Rome. The setting could not be more iconic with the Fori Imperiali ruins and the Colosseum as a backdrop.
