Swim 2.3 miles, bike 111.8 miles and run 26.2 miles through the flat and open landscape of Almere, Amsterdam. The Challenge Almere Long distance triathlon will take place on 14 September 2024. Did you know that, after Hawaii, Almere-Amsterdam is the oldest triathlon in the world, and you race entirely below sea-level?

Your Itinerary

Thursday 12th September

Today you will arrive into Schiphol Airport. Once you have cleared customs and collected your bags, make your way to the intercity train station located at the airport directly below the terminal. Trains depart every 30 minutes for Almere Centrum and the duration of the journey takes approximately 27 minutes. Information on how to transfer your bikes can be found in our transfers section. Our friendly team will be ready to welcome you at the hotel. 

Late afternoon we will do an easy run to loosen the legs and catch up for a welcome drink and briefing on the days ahead. There is also the option to take part in a swim practice at 3pm on Esplanade beach. 

Friday 13th September

This morning we’ll walk down to registration and bike check-in at the race site, situated on the esplanade, just a 15-minute walk away.  After the race briefing at midday, the afternoon is free for you to enjoy the local area. This evening there is a carb loading dinner at the event site which can be booked directly with Challenge. 

Saturday 14th September

This morning we will meet in the hotel foyers with the athletes and supporters making our way to the race start area. After the race starts we will take the supporters to key cheering zones on the course to support their athletes. The Tri Travel team will be on hand to support you after the race, with a celebration drink and guidance on getting back to the hotels. Our hotel is located a 15-minute walk away enabling you to get the rest you need after your race. 

Sunday 15th September

Unless you have booked extra nights please check out of your room before Noon. Safe travels and we hope you enjoyed your Challenge Almere experience!

Need to Know

Payments

To book this tour we require a non-refundable non-transferable deposit of 25% at the time of booking. Final payment is due before 17th June 2024. From this date, the booking is fully non-refundable and non-changeable.

Who can book

Our tours are available to book for Triathletes and family and friends from any country. 

Can I still keep my entry if I cancel my tour?

All entries remain linked to a tour and cannot be used as a stand-alone entry without a tour package.

Transfers

Transfers are not included on this tour. The easiest way to reach your hotel is via direct intercity train from Schiphol Airport to Almere Centrum. Once you arrive at Almere Centrum, it is just a five-minute walk to your hotel. It is possible to take your bike on the train for an extra fee of 7.50EUR, for more information on rules around bike transfer by train, please read here.

Your Details

Please check all the details shown to make sure the names on your booking are the same as each person's passport. If not, please let us know within 48 hours of making your booking so we can change them. If you don't let us know straight away, you may be charged. Names must be given at the time of booking and any shown as TBA will be classed as a name change and there will be a charge.

Insurance

Destination Sport Experiences strongly recommends travellers to take out comprehensive travel insurance with sufficient healthcare cover, including cover for existing medical conditions and any activities you plan to do.

If you have a European Health Insurance Card it will be valid up to its expiry date. This will be replaced with a new UK Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC). You can find further details here.

    Centrally located in the beautiful Dutch town of Almere, the Best Western is a great base for your tour. Situated next to the train station that connects Almere with the Capital Amsterdam and Schiphol international airport. The property is also a 15-minute walk to the harbourfront making key event areas accessible by foot. You will find plenty of food and drink options close by. 

    The whole hotel includes 363 rooms, as well as an in-house bar, a shop for snacks and quick meals and a rooftop swimming pool. A buffet breakfast is included in your stay at the hotel. Rooms are contemporary and welcoming, with modern conveniences.
