Friday 11 October, 2024: Travel to Como

Please make your own arrangements to arrive at our hotel in Como today. Our team will be available to meet you at the hotel. If you plan to fly then we offer group airport transfers for you, your luggage, and your bike from Milan Malpensa airport at 11.30 today.

If you arrive at any other times, we also offer private airport transfers from all Milan airports (Linate, Malpensa, Orio al Serio) at a supplement. The journey to Como takes approximately 1hr to 90 minutes. For more info please contact us).

Our hotel

We are staying at the Hotel B&B in Como. This is a basic but comfortable hotel with restaurants nearby. Your stay will be for 3 nights and will be on a bed-and-breakfast basis. You will have an early breakfast on Gran Fondo Day.

We offer both standard and superior rooms. Please be aware that our standard rooms are windowless.

What about my bike?

You can bring your own bike as we have made arrangements to transport bike boxes on our airport transfers. Alternatively, you can rent a bike with us for the weekend.

Our mechanic will be available this afternoon at the hotel to assist you with fitting your rental bike or building your own bike after travel. Bikes can be safely stored at the hotel.

Guided ride

A gentle 60km cycle is available this afternoon led by our local bike guides. We will follow a lakeside route which is mainly flat to get you settled into things.

This afternoon and early evening, our tour leaders and bike mechanics are available for you.

Saturday 12 October, 2024: Pro Race day

After breakfast, we will take you on a supported, guided ride that takes the route of Il Lombardia. En route, we will watch the riders of the pro peloton as they take on the white roads.

We’ll be back at the hotel in the afternoon after watching the race for you to rest and get prepared for tomorrow.

Hospitality at the start and/ or at the finish or a day on the course in an official race car are available to book today at an additional cost.

Sunday 13 October 2024: The 2024 Gran Fondo Lombardia

You were able to see how the riders of the Men’s cycling elite handled the roads yesterday. Today it’s your turn. Ride the 111km with 1700 metres of climbing of the Gran Fondo Lombardia. The main difficulties on the route are the Ghisallo and the Sormano.

We will drive you to the start in Cantu and you can cycle the short distance from the finish back to the hotel.

Race details:

START/FINISH: Cantù (CO)

TOTAL KM – 111,2 KM

ALTIMETRY – 1700 M

SIGN-ON OPENING: 06.30 am

START TIME: 07.30 am

TIMEKEEPING: Gran Fondo Il Lombardia uses the Official Timer MySDAM with a technology based on the use of “chips”. Every participant must have a valid personal chip or a one-day chip for hire. Information and use conditions about the chips are posted on the MySDAM website. The absence or the incorrect use of the chip will prevent the entrant from being part of the classification and from having his/her race time.

FEEDING ZONES: 2 along the route

TIME LIMIT: 7 hours – by 02.30 P.M.

This afternoon and early evening we’ll assist you with re-packing your bikes ahead of travel and you’ll also be able to return your rental bikes with us.

Monday 14 October, 2024: Departure

After breakfast, we offer our optional transfer back to Milan Malpensa airport. We will depart Como at 08.00 for flights that depart after 1100am. (transfer available at £100pp return)

Registration

PARTICIPATION: Gran Fondo Il Lombardia is open to: all the F.C.I. members and the Sport Promotion Bodies members that have signed the convention with F.C.I for the year 2021* aged 19 on the race day and up to 70 years old with a sport-medical certificate attesting the health conditions to practice competitive cycling and foreign amateur racing cyclists with their Federation regular 2021 membership card and the SPORT MEDICAL CERTIFICATE in the English language (CYCLING ONLY), click here to download it.

to all the amateur racing cyclists. For those who do not have a membership card, a € 10,00 one-day F.C.I. card will be issued. It covers the insurance for ‘third-party liability’ during the Event. For this card to be issued the participants need to SUBMIT THE SPORT-MEDICAL CERTIFICATE (ONLY in the English language and only for Cycling) together with the ETHICAL STATEMENT, click here to download it.

How to reach Como

By Plane

BERGAMO – ORIO AL SERIO

BY CAR: Take SS671 at Bergamo. Follow A4/E64, A52, SP35 in direction Strada Provinciale ex Strada Statale 35 dei Giovi a Cermenate. Drive in direction Corso Europa/SP34 in Cantù.

BY TRAIN OR BUS: Take the orioshuttle to Milan Central Station. Once in Central Station take M2 (green line) in direction Abbiategrasso until Garibaldi FS. From Garibaldi take the train S11 to Chiasso until Carimate. At Carimate Station take bus C82 to Carimate – V. Seveso – V. Stazione until Cantù – Piazzale CAI. Once there continue 700m walking until Corso Europa 17.

MILANO MALPENSA

BY CAR:  Take SS36 direction Aeroporto/A9/Como/Chiasso/Milano/Varese/Gravellona T./Busto Arsizio. Take SS36 and A36 in direction Strada Provinciale ex Strata Statale 35 dei Giovi a Cermenate and continue until Corso Europa 17.

BY TRAIN OR BUS: Take the train from Malpensa to Milano Cadorna until Saronno. Then from Saronno to Direction Como Lago until Lomazzo. From Lomazzo take the bus to Cantù until Piazza Cai – Autostazione. By walking (8min.) towards Corso Europa 17.

By Train or Bus

MILAN

From Cadorna Station take the train to Camnago Lentate until Cesano Maderno. Walk 1 minuti to reach the bus station in Via Santo Stefano and take the line Z150  to Cantù – Piazzale Cai – Autostazione until the end of the line. Walk 8 min. towards Corso Europa 17.

BERGAMO

From Bergamo’s Bus Station take the bus line Z301 to Sesto F.S. until Sesto S. Giovanni – piazza I° Maggio. From Sesto San Giovanni Station take the S11 train to Como S. Giovanni until Cantù-Cermenate. From the bus stop of Cantù-Cermenate take line C84 until Cantù in Viale Madonna. Continue for 1,8km towards Corso Europa 17.

By Car

From Milan, take the highway following for Milano -Meda -Lentate/SP35. Take Strada Provinciale ex Strada Statale 35 dei Giovi at Cermenate. Drive in direction Corso Europa 17 in Cantù.

From Bergamo take A4/E64 da SS42, towards Highway and junction Highway. Follow A4/E64, A52 and SP in direction Strada Provinciale ex Strada Statale 35 dei Giovi a Cermenate. Take the exit SS35 to Como and continue until Corso Europa 17.

From Pavia taking the A53 and the exit A7/E62, E35, A9 and A36 in direction Strada Provinciale ex Strada Statale 35 dei Giovi at  Cermenate. Keep the right at the crossroads, follow the directions for SS35 dei Giovi/Lentate and take A36, then take the exit to SP35 and follow to Corso Europa 17.
